Snakes

Snakes though frightening to some and a nuisance in our homes unless they are venomous tend to not place humans and pets at high risk of disease. All snakes can carry the Salmonella. This can only be transmitted through direct contact with snakes or their droppings. New York State is home to 17 different types of snakes. These include:




  • Timber Rattlesnake *Venomous*

  • Northern Copperhead *Venomous*

  • Eastern Massasauga *Venomous*

  • Northern Water Snake

  • Queen Snake

  • Northern Brown Snake

  • Northern Redbelly Snake

  • Common Garter Snake

  • Shorthead Garter Snake

  • Eastern Ribbon Snake

  • Eastern Hognose Snake

  • Northern Ringneck Snake

  • Eastern Worm Snake

  • Northern Black Racer

  • Smooth Green Snake

  • Black Rat Snake

  • Eastern Milk Snake
